The 2nd of December marked the 44th year of our emirates union. The day we all became one, and the day we all vowed to stick together for the betterment of our country. It was also the day we promised to stand up for one another, to show loyalty to our leaders and to follow them in everystep they take. We grew up on this basis for generations now, if we do not speak about it, it actually flows within us as UAE citizens.
Aside from the joy of our national day, traditionally speaking we begin celebrations and preparations for this day about weeks before. Flags are raised on rooftops, cars are decorated with national stickers, people walk around with different types of national pins and scarves, you just know when it's time when Novembers starts to bid farewell. Schools begin asking for national day related projects of all sorts, they ask for traditional food, traditional clothing's and everything related to ur dear grandfathers. This definitely means you get to see a 5 year old boy walking around in the garments his greatest grandfather used to wear, and a 10 year old little girl walking around in that gorgeous clothing we traditionally call the "Jalabia". During these times, we sense the spirit of the union in the air right before the 2nd of December, and that send in endless waves of loyalty, happiness and joy.
When the day begins to approach, night celebrations begin as well where grandparents take the stage and begin telling stories of the past, where we were are a country and people to where we stand. Poets grace our ears with endless faithful verses of what they wrote to remind us that we people are all in this together. Not only do educational institutes celebrate the national day their own way, but also families do the same. Each family holds its own celebrations whether its at their home, or in a public area where all members of that clan join in and spread the spirits. Every single person on the face of this country has his/her own way of celebrating.
When it comes down to this unique way of enjoying the national day, my family usually sets sail and starts roaming the streets of the city and enjoy the beauty its giving. Lights of all sorts, projections of all type, and decorations at their finest, what else do we need more than watch our cities glow with joy and beauty welcoming yet another year of endless success and leadership. May it endlessly grow and grace the world with its potentials, and may god protect this land and everyone living on it.
Happy 44th National Day
