Divergent - review

Fear doesn't shut you down; it wakes you up" -- V.Roth

Divergent was one of the books on my summer’s to read list.

I looked it up on Google after I was done with the HG trilogy, yes I was seeking another trilogy…you gotta love them right? Anyways so I just finished reading the book and I think it’s time for me to speak up about it.

First of all, this book is nothing compared to the HG, I don’t see the point in comparing it to the Hunger Games to begin with..I mean they are 2 different books.

--Moving on--
When I started off with Divergent, I did not really know what to except. Before purchasing books, I usually read the brief summary on the back cover of the book and basically have an idea of what I'm reading about. However, Divergent did not have that, it only had the “ One choice” lines and that’s what got me to read it; I wanted to know what actually happens and what the “One choice” has to do with things. As I began reading things started to heat up and I seriously couldn’t stop. Once Beatrice ( or should I say Tris) passed the aptitude test I couldn’t stop really.

From her keeping the results to herself to her jumping off trains..really fantastic.

What took me aback was they style of living Beatrice had to go through in Abnegation. No speaking on the dinner table unless you’re spoken too, and no looking in the mirror unless it’s the 2nd day of every 3rd month. That must’ve been really really deadly. But if you were raised by that then I bet it wouldn’t be so deadly after all, considering you are actually used to it.

~As for the characters~
What I liked about Tris’s character was that no matter how hard she tries and how hard she works for she wants she couldn’t stop thinking of her parents. I concluded the fact that she did that because she was not allowed to do what she was doing in the dauntless compound back in her old faction….that makes sense in a way…and the way she throws things back and just do what she wants now that she is in a new place with a new name was really impressive. I could relate to that. However, her thinking that she doesn’t know where she belongs was a turn back sometimes maybe because she was Divergent? I guess so. I also really loved her bravery and courage to being the first to jump and to be the first to stand up and do things she, herself, did not expect to do like standing up for Al when he was about to stand in front of flying daggers...loved it!

Moving on to Caleb. Now he has to be one of my favorite characters in the book. He seemed like the typical brother who understand his sister really well until the choosing ceremony. I actually thought he would stay in Abnegation but was I was really surprised that he changed Factions. Act of bravery and very unexpected. I mean Tris changing factions could’ve been possible but Caleb? Not at all.

Showing no affection was a huge problem in Abnegation, I found that quite difficult to comprehend.  Now moving on to after the Choosing ceremony.

Christina…Christina is just another story. I would love to have her as one of my best friends! She just seems right to be around! A typical girl to hang around, someone you would enjoy their company. Speaking when not asked, throwing comments when you should keep it shut…very nice!  The following has to be my ultimate fave part of the whole book.

“My name is Four”
Christina asks , “ Four? Like the number?”
“Yes,” four says. “is there a problem?”
“No.”
“Good, We’re about to go into the Pit, which you will someday learn to love. It-“
Christina snickers. “ The Pit? Clever name.”
Four walks up to Christina and leans his face close to hers. His eyes narrow , and for a second he just stares at her.
“What’s your name?” he asks quietly.
“Christina”, she squeaks.
“Well, Christina,  if I wanted to put up with Candor smart-mouths, I would have joined their faction,” he hisses. “ The first lesson you will learn from me is to keep your mouth shut. Got that?”
She nods.

Now that just made me laugh so hard I had to read that chapter over and over again! xD

Four was actually a good name; I’ve always wondered if that was a nickname or just his real name.. well it sounded like a nickname and the way he got it was really weird. He has 4 fears only...Period. Quite interesting..
Makes a lot of sense

From jumping off trains and roofs and fighting till one of the opponents fall to the fear simulations …thumbs up! I actually wanna try the fear landscape. It doesn’t sound very appealing but I want to actually give it a shot, I mean how many fears could I possibly have? Who knows really.

I’m trying to keep this as short as possible but I guess that’s not really possible because now is the time I talk about Peter. God Peter I would just want to through him off a cliff or something ,though I loved his persistence and competitiveness. Then comes Uriah who is basically one of my faves, his character was really nice and down to earth..possibly a friend I wanna have.

After the members were announced and Tris woke up not affected by the serum everyone was injected with, I couldn’t hold my self from skimming through the pages because I did not except war to happen to fast, but then things started to clear up and it actually made sense. Really good way of writing that !It's like the I could really see the events take place in my head, that's what made me really enjoy reading it!

Now to wrap things up, the Divergent trailer…do not get me started with it…simply perfect..astonishing..amazing..gorgeous! I never thought I would get so attached to this book…but I actually am…it’s really something new and very read-worthy.

I cant wait for the movie and now I’ll be starting book 2: Insurgent!

Oh and by the way, the faction quiz lists me as : Dauntless
